What Hire Walkie Talkie Radios & Accessories Do I Need?

We hire out two different types of walkie-talkie radio. Which type you need depends on your event, the range that you need etc.

The first thing to realise is that for many uses where the distances involved are smaller (less than half a mile, or within a venue with only a few rooms) it won't actually make any difference which model you hire - both will work fine.

However there are performance differences between the different models of radio, so:

VHF walkie-talkie radios for the best outdoor range

If your event or application for the walkie-talkies involves bigger distances and is outdoors or mainly outdoors (including temporary or lightweight structures such as marquees, wooden buildings, shelters etc, then you should hire the Kirisun VHF PT2208 16-channel professional walkie-talkie. This is an extremely rugged, simple to use radio very similar to the Motorola GP300, GP320 and GP340, or the Kenwood 3201 / 3202 or Maxon SL55 or SL100. VHF gives the longest range out of doors.

UHF walkie-talkie radios for best signal penetration within larger buildings

If your event or application is within a larger building or buildings, then consider hiring the new Kirisun PT5200 UHF 4W 16-channel professional walkie-talkie. These walkie-talkies are light and compact. UHF signals work better inside and amongst big buildings.

How Many Walkie Talkies Will You Need?

You need to work out how many walkie-talkie radios you need for all of your users. If organising an outdoor event, you need to work out which of your stewards / security people / staff etc will require their own radio. It is worth making sure that you have a few more than you definitely need - once your event starts, you may well find that more people need a walkie-talkie than you initially planned for.

How Long Does the Walkie Talkie Battery Last?

Our walkie-talkie radio batteries will last for around 15-25 hours on one fully-charged battery. The exact battery life will depend on how much transmitting each radio does - it is transmitting that uses the most battery power. Recharging takes no more than 1-3 hours. We can provide spare battery packs  walkie-talkies we can provide spare battery packs if required, for a small extra charge.

Will You Need Earpiece / Microphones, speaker/mics or headsets?

Depending on your use for the walkie-talkie radios, you may find it useful to hire earpiece / microphones, speaker/microphones or headsets to go with your walkie-talkies. If the radios are to be used in a noisy environment - for example where loud amplified music is being played - the user may not hear radio messages, especially if their walkie-talkie is on their belt or in their pocket. Or they may want to be able to leave the radio attached to their belt and be able to speak into a lapel-worn speaker/microphone or hands-free headset.

Wearing the earpiece/microphone avoids the possibility of important radio messages going unheard because of high ambient noise levels.

Also, for some applications, where privacy may be important, having your walkie-talkie radio users wearing earpieces prevents people standing near a radio user from hearing what is being said over the radio. This can be useful in security work - for example to avoid causing panic, or alerting someone to the fact that they are being discussed on the radio.

For our Kirisun walkie-talkies we can also rent out speaker/microphones, leather carry cases with neck straps,  headsets of various types etc.

How Many Chargers Will You Need?

We have enough chargers for one per walkie-talkie radio hired, but often users do not need this many. If your use for the radios only lasts for one day, you almost certainly will not need one charger per radio. Let us know when arranging your hire how many of the chargers you want. For the Kirisun and Motorola radios we have six slot multi-charger units so that you do not need to provide dozens of mains sockets to charge your hired walkie-talkies..
